The Comoros are volcanic islands with steep mountains and low hills. The government system is a republic, the chief of state and head of government is the president. Comoros has a mixed economic system with a heavy reliance on agriculture, combined with relatively weak centralized economic planning and government regulation. Comoros is a member of the League of Arab States (Arab League) and the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA).
